One of Valerie's favorite things about being the Medical Coordinator at Second Nature is seeing the change in students from the day they come to the day they leave; It’s a complete 180 degrees. The best part of Second Nature for Valerie is being able to see families begin to heal by learning new ways to problem solve & communicate with each other. Managing medications can be a big part of the healing process and Valerie is happy to be able to help facilitate things so that families can be sure their children have the correct medications at the correct dosage while they’re here. She works closely with parents and medical practitioners to assure the best outcome available.
Other than while attending college, Valerie has lived in the Uintah Basin most of her life. She graduated from Snow College with an Associate of Science Degree and Weber State University with her Nursing Degree. Valerie became an EMT in 1996 and got her nursing degree in 1997. Valerie originally started working at Second Nature in 2001, but after a few years decided to take some time off to focus on her family. Family is her #1 priority so when the opportunity to come back to Second Nature in 2018 became available she took it.
Valerie and her husband have been married 25 years and have 4 children & 1 daughter in law. They live on an 80-acre farm with their 2 dogs, 3 chickens, 2 ducks, 15 sheep, 1 horse & 40 cows. Needless to say, there is never a dull moment. Valerie enjoys spending time with her family & volunteering in the community.
